Crafting for a cause began when our Missionary Kid couldn’t make it home from college for the holidays. His college offered the Home for the Holidays scholarship, prioritizing missionary kids and international students spending their first Christmas away from family. Our son was so disappointed that he couldn’t come home to our base in East Africa for the holidays because the college fund only had $6000, and we had no idea that one ticket alone during the holiday season was over $3000! Over fifty students applied for the scholarship that Christmas!
I empathize so much with families who work as missionaries, especially during holidays. Imagine the heartbreak of missionary children spending their first Christmas away from home due to financial constraints. Even though most students are American (by passport), most don’t feel American. Missionary kids consider home the place they grew up or where their family serves, not necessarily their passport country. This is why going home is so important!
The Home for Holidays fund is one of many ways I hope to support missionary families.
